Genesis 9:14-19
God's covenant with Noah was the first Old Testament covenant. It was a covenant for life on the earth. But instead of granting this covenant as a reward for something Noah did, God graciously established his covenant after he saved Noah and his family. God's promise did not depend upon any human response. No matter what people do, we can be assured that God will never again destroy the world by a flood. To remind us of his everlasting
mercy, God fashioned the rainbow as a sign of his covenant. Let us be thankful that God is completely trustworthy and that he is always faithful to keep his promises.
Prayer and Praise
O LORD OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, we acknowledge your everlasting promises. We praise you that you have acted graciously toward us despite our unfaithfulness. We thank you for the mercy you have showered on us, your covenant people. Help us to live in a way that is pleasing to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
